Luis Zapata

Luis Zapata serves as Director of Coaching for Hamden United and has been an important part of the club’s development since its early years. A longtime member of the Hamden soccer community, Luis brings a strong connection to the town and an understanding of the pathway local players experience from their earliest years through competitive youth soccer.

A former standout at Hamden High School, Luis earned New Haven Register All-Area and SCC All-Quinnipiac honors during his playing career and later served as a captain for the Green Dragons.

Luis holds a **USSF C License** and plays a key role in implementing Hamden United’s technical methodology and game model across the club. As Director of Coaching, he works closely with the Technical Director and coaching staff to create consistency in how HU teams train, play, and develop players.

His work includes supporting and mentoring coaches, implementing the club’s curriculum and principles of play, evaluating and identifying players, and helping guide roster construction and long-term player development. On the field, Luis emphasizes technical quality, competitiveness, decision-making, and developing players who understand the game rather than simply executing instructions.

Having experienced Hamden soccer as both a player and coach, Luis brings a strong sense of community to his role. His work with Hamden United is centered on giving local players a competitive environment where they can develop, be challenged, and continue progressing within the game.
